KRISTJAN PLAGBORG NIELSEN - engineer
CV and portfolio:
Kristjan Plagborg Nielsen is a senior structural engineer with a Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering from Aarhus University with a high focus on parametric and computational design. During his Bachelor’s studies he developed a design guide for parametric modelling of courtyard roofs, including parameters as indoor climate, energy consumption, structural design and manufacturing. For his Master’s Thesis he wrote a dissertation on how engineers throughout time have influenced architecture.
Moreover, Kristjan has gained practical experience working for engineering consultancy Bollinger + Grohmann in Paris and he is currently employed as Senior Engineer in Ramboll Computational Design in Ramboll UK’s London office. During his work he has gained international experience, collaborating successfully with internationally recognised architects as OMA, Dominique Perrault, Zaha Hadid, BIG, Wilmotte and HOK. He has been project manager as well as leading detailed parametric studies on various scaled projects from World Cup Stadiums in both Russia and Qatar, over high-rise office towers to high-end shops, as well as doing small scale art pieces as Archilace with Loop.pH or Planetarium Sorrow with Berger&Berger.
Since 2012 Kristjan Plagborg Nielsen has been running workshop and courses on parametric design, for both architects and engineers, and at conferences such as Smart Geometry '14 in Hong Kong and the upcoming Design Modelling Symposium in Copenhagen, as well as given lectures on digital design for instance for The Institution of Civil Engineers in London. He is also involved in teaching architectural students at Oxford Brookes University and as an Associate Professor at Technical University of Denmark he is running a course on the history and background of architectural engineering.
